Week 16: Firing the slug bricklayers and moving on with gutters and roof (10-14 August)

After the sluggish bricklayers disappeared at the end of July it all went quiet. I have come to learn when my lovely site supervisor stops returning calls he is stressing out a bit and coming up with a plan. He likes to have a solution when he calls back. The solution was a bit creative. The usual process of building a house is walls first then roof.... but if you aint got walls at some point I guess you just get going on the roof! This was the smile on our faces after he met with us and explained his grand plan to get things moving again.

To the credit of Mr Slug, he did come back and build front columns (in one day! so he is capable of speed when pushed) so the roof would not fall in! Here are the columns - a mix of face brick and red commons as it will be clad.

And Mr Slug was officially fired. Fowler had sourced a top new bricklaying team (who I will call the 3 Little Pigs) who assessed the job promised they would have it all completed in 3 days... must remember not to get my hopes up (looking back it has been 15 times that already!).

So Week 16 saw the gutter in place in one day (11 Sept), then the top roof in place in one hot Saturday (14 Sept). Shirtless is the only way to do it in that heat. We took them cold drinks of course.

I've never seen a roof I loved more. The Bristile Prestige flat design looks great compared to wavy design. Stoked that this upgrade was in the standard package and we didn't pay any extra for it as we may not have realised what a visual difference it would make and upgraded without it being included. The 25 degree pitch adds to the street appeal too so thankful that Fower includes this rather than the 'standard' (virtually flat 2.5 degree design) that other companies offered.

And so we wait for the 3 Little Pig bricklayers that know how to really lay in a hurry!
